Here's a snapshot of the steps homebuyers typically take to get their first home:
Step 1: Get prequalified.*
If accepted, this will show how much "house" you can afford and lets sellers know you're serious. Start your application online or call our Home Loan team at (844) 347-3898.
Step 2: Make and accept an offer.
We recommend you hire a licensed Realtor® or other expert to help you determine the value of the property, structure a good offer, and negotiate your purchase.
Step 3: Home inspection.
A home inspection helps protect you from unseen issues before you buy the home, such as water damage, faulty HVAC or wiring, a leaking roof, and pests.
Step 4: Appraisal and underwriting.
An independent appraisal verifies the value of the property. Meanwhile, STCU verifies your contract details, orders title insurance on the home, and handles regulations and other paperwork.
Step 5: Closing.
This is the day you sign legal papers to close the deal.
Step 6: Move in!
Congratulations! You are now a homeowner.

*Prequalification and all home loans are subject to approval. No deposit is necessary to apply for prequalification for an STCU home loan until after you have selected a property. A $250 application deposit is required on all home loans three business days after you have identified a home to buy and been issued a loan estimate from STCU. The first $100 of your deposit is nonrefundable, but 100% of your deposit is applied to any loan charges due when you close on your STCU home loan.
