We open doors.

Buying your first place is a big deal. STCU makes it easy for first-time homebuyers.

We open doors for those hoping to buy their first home — and those who haven't owned a home in three years — with great rates, a loan-fee discount, and help at every step of the way.

Why choose STCU?

We're local: we make decisions locally and service all conventional loans ourselves. Win-win.

We have experience: our Home Loan team has more than 340 years combined experience.

We can save you money: we cut our loan origination fee by 50% on every first-time homebuyer loan.

We'll be with you the whole way.

Here's a snapshot of the steps homebuyers typically take to get their first home:

Step 1: Get prequalified.*

If accepted, this will show how much "house" you can afford and lets sellers know you're serious. Start your application online or call our Home Loan team at (844) 347-3898.

Step 2: Make and accept an offer.

We recommend you hire a licensed Realtor® or other expert to help you determine the value of the property, structure a good offer, and negotiate your purchase.

Step 3: Home inspection.

A home inspection helps protect you from unseen issues before you buy the home, such as water damage, faulty HVAC or wiring, a leaking roof, and pests.

Step 4: Appraisal and underwriting.

An independent appraisal verifies the value of the property. Meanwhile, STCU verifies your contract details, orders title insurance on the home, and handles regulations and other paperwork.

Step 5: Closing.

This is the day you sign legal papers to close the deal.

Step 6: Move in!

Congratulations! You are now a homeowner.

First-time home loan options.

STCU offers a full range of home loans to fit your needs, and our Home Loan team will work with you to choose the best option that fits your budget. Here are some popular loan options first-time homebuyers prefer:

Zero down* STCU's $0 down home loan is great for creditworthy borrowers who lack the cash for a down payment. Also available as a VA or USDA government-backed loan.
3% or 3.5% down* Our 3% down home loan — and a similar 3.5% down FHA government-backed loan — are great for homebuyers willing to accept higher monthly payments in exchange for a modest down payment.
5% down* A good choice for homebuyers who prefer conventional financing, but can only afford a 5% down payment.
10% down,
no mortgage insurance*
Great for creditworthy borrowers who can afford a modest down payment and want to avoid mortgage insurance.
Down payment match* Boost your buying power with a down payment match from STCU, up to 5% of the purchase price. Pay 0% APR on the matched amount, and owe nothing until the end of your loan term, or if you refinance, get a home equity loan, or sell your home.
Conventional and ARM* Conventional fixed- and adjustable-rate loans with a variety of terms, including STCU's traditional 30-year fixed home loan. View rates and terms
