STCU plans to begin construction in late winter on a new branch location in Spokane Valley to accommodate membership growth at the credit union.

[november 6, 2020]

The 3,100-square-foot Argonne Branch, 9209 E. Mission Ave., is scheduled to open late next year on the same property, at Mission and Mullan Road, where the Spokane-based organization already operates the Argonne Home Loan Center and drive-through ATMs.

The center opened in 2018 near two 1970s-era buildings currently on the property, which will be relocated to a site near the Pines Road interchange. The new Argonne Branch will be designed by Bernardo-Wills Architects and built by Yost Gallagher Construction of Spokane.

While members increasingly use STCU’s free online banking and STCU mobile app to access accounts, President and CEO Ezra Eckhardt said that in-person interaction at STCU locations remains a foundational experience for many members. Just a short distance from the Interstate 90-Argonne interchange, the new Spokane Valley branch is expected to be one of the credit union’s most popular locations, Eckhardt said.

Argonne will be the 30th branch location for STCU, including four that will be added in December when the member-owned organization acquires four Umpqua Bank locations in the Columbia Basin, subject to regulatory approval.

STCU, a not-for-profit financial cooperative founded in 1934, currently has more than $3.8 billion in total assets and more than 210,000 members, including 130,000 in Spokane County.
