The credit union is offering a free FAFSA assistance event on Wednesday, October 14, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at its Spokane Valley location at 13501 E. Sprague Avenue.
First launched in 2020, STCUs FAFSA assistance program continues to help families across the region complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students will work with local high school and college career counselors and STCU staff ambassadors. Now that school is back in session, it’s a good way to look ahead for anyone looking to further their post-secondary education or enter career training programs.
The event is open to anyone, regardless of STCU membership. Attendees are encouraged to create an account at studentaid.gov before attending, and to review required financial records at stcu.org/fafsa. Students who are unable to attend Wednesday’s session can make individual appointments starting October 13 at other STCU locations; again, these free sessions are open to all, with no membership required.
Completing the FAFSA is a critical step for those who may decide to obtain specialized career training or attend college. Nationwide, the FAFSA completion rate was 54 percent in 2025. That’s a bump from the previous two years, and is catching up to pre-pandemic levels, according to the National College Attainment Network. Washington’s 2025 completion rate was 47%; Idaho’s was 45%.
