Opening on Tuesday, a stand-alone drive-through at 1335 E. Main Street will be STCU’s second location in Othello. Phase two of construction, which starts next year, will add a lobby, expanding the drive-through to a full-service STCU branch location.
Simultaneous with the opening of the new drive-through, STCU plans to close the drive through on its existing Othello Branch, 450 E. Main Street, which STCU acquired from Umpqua Bank in 2022. STCU plans to close the original branch entirely, after the new branch location is fully built and operational.
The need for a new location was clear from the outset, as the original branch’s single-lane drive-through was often overwhelmed at peak business hours.
“Right away, we were thrilled to see so many members in need of services in Othello,” said STCU Retail Director Luke Todd. “This new location will allow us to continue to provide the kind of timely, member-first service that is expected from STCU, for years to come.”
Cliff Thorn Construction of Richland was the general contractor on the building; it was designed by ALSC Architects of Spokane.
The new location furthers STCU’s commitment to underserved communities across its growing geographic footprint. While national and regional banks continue to pull out of smaller towns, STCU sees an opportunity to provide financial services, community support, and job creation.
“STCU remains focused on providing the best facilities and services to our members across the region,” said STCU President and CEO Ezra Eckhardt. “While use of online banking and our mobile app continues to grow, the demand for the Othello drive-through tells us that members still value in-person service from an STCU representative at a brick-and-mortar location.”
Othello Branch Manager Kerrie Petersen will lead both locations.
