First-time homebuyers dream in color.
With a first-time home loan from STCU, you could buy a place of your own—and paint it the way you want.
Buying your first place is a big deal. But STCU makes it easy for first-time homebuyers. We open doors for those hoping to buy their first home — and those who haven't owned a home in three years — with great rates, a loan-fee discount, and help at every step of the way.
Why choose STCU?
Whether you settle in Sandpoint or Spokane, Rathdrum or Richland, we make decisions locally and service all conventional loans ourselves.
Our Home Loan team has more than 340 years combined experience, so you get the best experts at home financing working for you.
Because we believe homeownership is critical to getting ahead financially, we cut our loan origination fee by 50% on every first-time homebuyer loan.
Apply to get prequalified.*
Take the first step toward homeownership by applying to get prequalified for your loan. You'll need a few things to get started — tax returns for the last two years (or transcripts if you were most recently in college), recent paystubs, and a statement of assets (bank account balances, vehicles and valuables you may own, and so on).
We'll be with you the whole way.
While buying a house may seem daunting, STCU will be with you through the entire process. Here's a snapshot of the steps homebuyers typically take to get their first home:
Step 1: Get prequalified.*
It's easy to apply to get prequalified at STCU.* If accepted, this will show how much "house" you can afford and signals to sellers that your offer is serious. Start your application online or call our Home Loan team at (844) 347-3898.
Step 2: Make and accept an offer.
We recommend you hire a licensed Realtor® or other expert to help you determine the value of the property, structure a good offer, and negotiate your purchase.
Step 3: Home inspection.
A home inspection helps protect you from unseen issues before you buy the home, such as water damage, faulty HVAC or wiring, a leaking roof, and pests.
Step 4: Appraisal and underwriting.
An independent appraisal verifies the value of the property. Meanwhile, STCU verifies your contract details, orders title insurance on the home, and handles regulations and other paperwork.
Step 5: Closing.
This is the day you sign legal papers to close the deal.
Step 6: Move in!
Congratulations! You are now a homeowner. Now where's that paint brush?

Home loans radio
Buying a home should be more than just a mortgage and moving day. It should be a celebration! So, we made some fun radio spots about the adventure.
*Prequalification and all home loans are subject to approval. No deposit is necessary to apply for prequalification for an STCU home loan until after you have selected a property. A $250 application deposit is required on all home loans three business days after you have identified a home to buy and been issued a loan estimate from STCU. The first $100 of your deposit is nonrefundable, but 100% of your deposit is applied to any loan charges due when you close on your STCU home loan.
